my Passion for Photography

April 2014, 15 year old me discovered a burning passion for photography.

So I started up a small photography service and I worked every weekend, earning just the right amount of cash for a teenager. I fell in love with the way that the camera could capture so many different facial expressions and emotions. I fell in love with walking on the streets and seeing something interesting and capturing that moment forever.

Photography has become a big part of my life, it is a way that I can support myself (as a 16 year old) and still do the one thing that I love the most. I think it is essential in life to find your passion and pursue it in the most beneficial way, by making it your career. I can think of nothing better than earning money for simply doing what you love.

Yesterday, I met up with two of my close friends, and we went into the streets of Johannesburg, South Africa, and we wondered around finding interesting and amazing locations to shoot. It was my first big shoot I had done in a long time, and my passion for photography was reignited.

We focused on strong facial expressions and high fashion, and it was a day I will never forget. To make things even better, we spotted some incredible street style, and met some amazing people with different backgrounds.

We set out at sunset to capture the images at the most beautiful time of the day. The city was a vibe! There were fashion entrepreneurs & designers standing right in the middle of the road, photographing street style or even just the beautiful city. There was loud music playing from every restaurant or bar on the corners of the streets, little stores selling second hand clothing. I don’t live in South Africa anymore, but seeing the city in this way brought back my South African pride.

Even though I am still quite young, I can already tell that the key to being happy in life is finding something that you feel that you want to do all day every day, and doing it! Nothing should stop someone from doing what makes them happy and what they love. There was a period of time where I hadn’t done a photo shoot in a very long time and yesterday’s shoot made me realize again how important it is to me.

My advice to any youngsters who want to start out their own business is: do what makes you happy, and do it well.
